As India mounted its most significant military operation inside Pakistani territory in over five decades, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar strongly reaffirmed India’s stance against cross-border terrorism. In the wake of Operation Sindoor, which saw precision strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), Jaishankar issued a stern message to the global community: “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”

Taking to social media platform X, the minister wrote, “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism. #OperationSindoor,” underlining India’s call for a unified global front against terror outfits and their sponsors.

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. The government has termed the attack “barbaric” and has vowed that those responsible will be held accountable.

According to official sources, the operation was a coordinated effort involving the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. It was aimed specifically at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and eliminating senior leadership of Pakistan-based terror groups, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which have long been accused of orchestrating attacks on Indian soil.

The Ministry of Defence stated: “A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.” The statement emphasized that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature,” noting that “no Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

Indian intelligence agencies provided the coordinates for the strikes, which were carried out entirely from Indian territory using precision-guided munitions and loitering drones. The nine targets included four locations in Pakistan proper—Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot—and five in PoJK. The attacks were described by CNN as India’s “deepest” incursion into Pakistani territory since the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war.

Sources confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the entire operation throughout the night, demonstrating the top-level political backing for the mission and the seriousness with which India views the threat of terrorism emanating from across the border.

The Ministry of Defence has scheduled a press briefing for 10:00 AM Wednesday to provide further details about the operation and its outcomes.

The Indian government has repeatedly called on the international community to isolate countries that support and harbor terrorists. Jaishankar’s statement comes as a clear reiteration of that message. In recent years, India has adopted a more assertive approach to national security, especially when it comes to cross-border terror threats. The airstrikes in Balakot in 2019 and the current Operation Sindoor underscore that strategic shift.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army reported that Pakistan violated the ceasefire late Tuesday night by launching unprovoked artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB), killing three innocent civilians. The Indian Army responded proportionately and continues to remain on high alert.

With tensions still simmering, India has maintained that it does not seek escalation but will act decisively to defend its citizens and sovereignty. Operation Sindoor stands as a strong message—not just to those who support terrorism, but to the international community at large—that India will not hesitate to act when provoked.
